Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has shared a funny but interesting story about his longtime drummer and music director, Emmanuel Abiola-Jacobs, popularly known as Manny, during his wedding ceremony.
Speaking at the wedding over the weekend, Burna Boy revealed that Manny once considered walking away from secular music and returning to gospel music.
According to the Grammy-winning singer, that decision could have changed Manny’s life in a completely different direction, especially when it comes to his love life.

Burna Boy jokingly suggested that if Manny had left music at the time, he might never have met the woman who is now his wife.
The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker had guests laughing as he told Manny that instead of enjoying the life he has today, he would probably be in church “clapping hands and praising the sky.”
“It’s the little things that piss me off. Have you asked them how they met? You all are just eating and drinking,” Burna Boy said.
He then reminded Manny of his previous plan to leave secular music.
“Manny, you said you wanted to dump music and go back to Jesus and Christianity? If you had quit music, would you and your wife have met?”
Burna Boy continued by jokingly taking credit for the wedding, saying:
“I give myself credit because this wedding would not have happened if you had given up music and gone to church clapping and praising the sky.”
The moment drew laughter from guests as Burna Boy reflected on how Manny’s decision to remain in music may have indirectly played a role in him meeting his wife.
Manny’s Journey With Burna Boy
Manny has been an important member of Burna Boy’s live band for several years.
He joined Burna Boy’s touring band in 2019 and has since worked closely with the singer as his lead drummer and music director.
Over the years, he has performed alongside Burna Boy at major concerts and on different stages around the world.
What started as a decision to remain in secular music has now become part of Manny’s personal story, with the drummer not only building a successful career but also celebrating a major milestone in his personal life.
And from Burna Boy’s hilarious wedding speech, it seems the singer believes Manny owes his music career at least a little credit for helping him find love.
