The 2027 political season is gradually gathering momentum in Benue, and Benue South is already beginning to feel the heat.
Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and serving as Senate Minority Leader, has officially flagged off his campaign for another term in the National Assembly, using the occasion to call on his constituents to massively support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general election.
The campaign flag-off, held in Otukpo, attracted PDP supporters, party leaders, political stakeholders and other residents from across Benue South.
For Moro, however, the event was more than just another political gathering. He presented his re-election bid as a renewed commitment to the people of the senatorial district and an opportunity to consolidate on what he described as the progress already recorded.
The senator told supporters that he was not seeking another term simply for the sake of holding office. Rather, he said, his ambition was driven by the need to continue representing the interests of the people and pushing for development across the district.
Moro Takes Aim at Alia Administration
One of the major talking points at the event was Moro’s criticism of the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The Senate Minority Leader accused the state government of neglecting Benue South, alleging that the situation had placed additional pressure on him as constituents increasingly turned to him whenever they needed intervention or leadership.
Moro also spoke strongly about the insecurity affecting communities in parts of Benue South.
He lamented the killings and displacement reportedly suffered by residents, accusing the Alia administration of not showing enough concern for communities affected by the crisis.
According to him, the suffering of displaced families and communities should not be treated as a political talking point but as an urgent issue requiring serious government attention.
The senator also challenged the Alia administration to openly present what it considers its major achievements and provide factual figures showing what has accrued to the state treasury over the past three years.
That challenge is likely to generate further political reactions in the days ahead, especially as politicians across the country gradually position themselves for the 2027 elections.
Moro Highlights His Record at the National Assembly
While asking constituents for another mandate, Moro also used the occasion to highlight his legislative activities.
The senator said he had sponsored about 16 bills and moved 16 motions on the floor of the National Assembly.
He also claimed to have attracted development projects to all nine local government areas in Benue South, in addition to numerous other interventions.
For a politician seeking re-election, those achievements are clearly central to his campaign message: that his time in the Senate should be judged not only by political statements but also by the projects and legislative interventions he says he has delivered to his constituents.
Moro therefore urged the people of Benue South to look at his record and give him another opportunity to continue representing them.
Moro Throws Weight Behind Aondoakaa
The senator did not limit his appeal to his own re-election.
He also called on the people of Benue South to support the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN.
Moro described Aondoakaa as someone who is prepared to work in the interest of the people and provide what he believes would be better governance for the state.
His endorsement adds another layer to the growing political battle ahead of 2027, with the PDP making it clear that it intends to present the election as a contest over leadership, accountability and development.
Ortom Calls for PDP Unity

Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, was also present at the campaign flag-off and used the opportunity to appeal for unity among PDP members and supporters.
Ortom urged the people of Benue South and PDP faithful to stand firmly behind Moro and other candidates of the party.
According to the former governor, the 2027 election would provide voters with an opportunity to make a choice about the kind of leadership they want, particularly in areas of credibility, accountability and meaningful development.
Governorship candidate Michael Aondoakaa also appealed to Benue residents to rally behind the PDP.
He described the party as a team committed to good governance, accountability and development, urging voters to give the party their support when the time comes.
PDP Says Benue Is Ready for 2027
The state PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji, commended the large turnout at the campaign flag-off.
According to him, the crowd was an indication that many people were yearning for purposeful representation, responsive leadership and meaningful development.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of party flags to four National Assembly candidates and 11 candidates contesting for seats in the Benue State House of Assembly.
The PDP described the turnout as a sign of its preparedness for the 2027 electoral contest.
With the campaign now officially underway, the political atmosphere in Benue South is expected to become even more intense as the 2027 election draws closer.
For Senator Abba Moro and the PDP, the message from Otukpo was clear: they want the people of Benue South to stay with the party, return Moro to the Senate, support the party’s candidates across the state and, importantly, vote for President Bola Tinubu.
Whether that message will resonate with voters when they finally head to the polls is another question entirely.
But one thing is already obvious — Benue South is warming up for 2027, and the political battle has begun.
