Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has been forced to address a disturbing death rumour making rounds on social media after reports surfaced claiming that the actress had died.
The rumour reportedly caught the attention of fans and followers, with some social media users already expressing concern over the alleged death of the popular actress and filmmaker.
But Ruth Kadiri has now come out herself to set the record straight.
In a video shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, the actress firmly dismissed the report, revealing that she is alive, healthy and safe.
“Please note that I am alive. I did not have any accident, and I am safe,” Kadiri said.
She later added: “I am alive and healthy.”
That statement should put worried fans at ease, especially those who may have come across the disturbing claims online and were unsure whether they were genuine.
Kadiri also urged her followers not to believe or spread unverified information about her. The actress went a step further by asking fans to report social media pages responsible for circulating the false reports.
And this is where the whole thing gets disturbing.
In this social media era, a false death announcement can travel faster than the truth. By the time the person involved comes out to deny it, thousands of people may have already seen, shared or believed the original claim.
For someone like Ruth Kadiri, who has a huge audience online, such a rumour can easily cause unnecessary panic among fans, friends and family members.
Interestingly, the actress is currently very much active and busy with her filmmaking projects.
Kadiri has been promoting her latest production, Once Upon a Village, which has continued to attract attention across her digital platforms.
She recently released Episode 5 of the series on RuthKadiri247, featuring actors including Henrietta Ibekwe and Deza The Great.
The filmmaker has in recent years built a strong digital presence by releasing original Nollywood productions directly to her audience, alongside behind-the-scenes content and other entertainment projects.
So, for everyone who may have seen the shocking headline claiming that Ruth Kadiri had died, the actress herself has given the answer:
Ruth Kadiri is alive, healthy and safe.
The bigger question, however, is why do people keep creating and spreading death rumours about celebrities in the first place?
For now, Kadiri is asking fans to do one simple thing — verify before you share.
