The situation surrounding Peter Obi’s visit to Benue has taken another turn, with the state police command confirming the arrest of 46 persons allegedly connected to the obstruction of his convoy.
The incident happened on Tuesday during Obi’s visit to the state, where he was reportedly in Benue to sympathise with families affected by the Yelwata crisis.
Speaking with journalists in Makurdi on Wednesday, Benue State Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, said the command had been informed about Obi’s visit on Monday evening and had already made security arrangements for his movement.

According to the police boss, three police escort vehicles led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police were deployed for the visit.
However, things reportedly became tense when a group of people blocked Obi’s movement.
The commissioner said the police deliberately avoided using force at the scene because they did not want the situation to escalate into violence or result in loss of lives and destruction of property.
Obi was eventually escorted safely to the airport and left the state.
But the matter did not end there.
Nwadiogbu said the police immediately commenced an intelligence-led operation to identify those involved, which has now resulted in the arrest of 46 suspects.
He added that efforts were still ongoing to apprehend other persons allegedly connected to the incident.
The commissioner also made it clear that the police would remain neutral, stressing that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement irrespective of political affiliation or personal belief.
He warned that nobody or group has the right to unlawfully prevent another person from moving freely.
For now, the investigation is ongoing, and the police say anyone found culpable will be prosecuted according to the law.
The incident has already generated reactions in Benue, especially coming at a time when political activities and tensions are gradually building ahead of the 2027 elections.
